The Font

Victorian font decorated with flowers inside St Peter’s Church

Begin your visit at the font near the entrance to the church.

The present font was installed in 1846 as a gift from the Revd Henry Bromfield, who served as Vicar of Grandborough between 1783 and 1803 and founded the parish Sunday School in 1788. Fonts are traditionally placed near the entrance of a church, symbolising baptism as the beginning of the Christian journey. An earlier font stood in the church before the present Victorian replacement.
