The organ dates from 1872 and reflects what many organ historians regard as the finest period of English organ building.

Although the identity of the original builder remains uncertain, the instrument is noted for the quality and brilliance of its sound. It was damaged by water ingress during the 1950s and restored by J. W. Walker & Sons in 1958.

Today it continues to lead worship and special musical events in the church.
