St Peter's is a Grade II* Listed Building of national significance.

Caring for it is an ongoing commitment - a work of stewardship which the parish takes seriously and which depends on the generosity of grant-makers, trusts and parishioners.

This page records some of the major conservation and restoration projects undertaken in recent years to protect St Peter's and its historic fabric.

Previous Restoration Work

St Peter's has a long history of conservation and repair. Notable previous works include:

1997

Tower west window: new mullions and tracery installed.

1996

Nave roof replaced. Contemporary replacement of the parapet of the east gable of the chancel.

1995–96

External repointing of walls to 600mm above ground level.

1982

Roofs of north and south aisles replaced.

1980–83

Major repairs to the tower and spire, including replacement of the top approximately eight feet.
